KOKO Kawane is a modern tea and matcha atelier that bridges centuries of tea farming with contemporary pastry artistry. A collaboration with Kawane Matcha – a historic farm dating back to the 1600s, founded by Somon Ohashi and currently run by its 13th generation – the concept pairs masterfully grown tea with exceptional handcrafted cakes and pastries created by a Japanese pastry chef utilising an elegant fusion of classic Japanese and French techniques. Kawane is a tea-growing region in Shizuoka – Japan’s largest tea-producing region, also known as the tea capital of Japan, accounting for roughly 40% of the nation's total tea output. Located in a mountainous area along the Ōi River, Kawane’s elevated terrains and misty atmosphere slow down the growth of tea leaves, complemented by natural springs and mineral-rich soils, allowing deeper complexity and aromas to develop over time. Contributing to only ~2.5% of Japan’s tea output, Kawane represents authenticity, with premium tea leaves valued not for scale, but for quality and care.
